Echoes from past

Yet an other bridge outside the small town of Cirauqui. This one is built already over 2000 years ago, during Roman era. In fact the pilgrim road follows quite precisely the old Roman road Via Traiana starting from Burdigala, now Burgundy and leading to the gold mines in Galicia. No doubt the first pilgrims from north of Pyrennees followed the old Roman road where ever it was still visible, and the remains of the road it helped them to find their way to Santiago more easily.

There are still stretches of the ancient Roman road remaining here and there on the Camino. I found it utmostly facinating knowing that during thousands of years millions and milloins of people have followed the same road. Sometimes I almost heard echoes from past.
