Echoes from past |
The
13th century Gothic Cathedral of León in all its glory. The building
was begun in 1205, and it is in most parts a copy of the Rheims Cathedral
in 2/3 scale. It is the fourth church on the site, the first was built ca.
924 over ruins of a Roman bath. León was founded by the Romans in 70 AD. It was the seat of the Seventh Legion, that gave the name to the city, Le[gi]on. There is hardly any Roman structures left in the city besides a part of a Roman wall.
