Along the way to Santiago de Compostela

Some of the refugios had kitchen facilities for cooking. Few places offered free meals for pilgrims as a gesture of traditional hospitality like Father Jose Maria of San Juan de Ortega handing out garlic soup and bread.

The refugio at the monastery of San Juan de Ortega was very simple and a bit messy, but it still remains one of my favourites because of the beautiful pilgrims blessing Father Jose Maria gave after the Mass.
