Echoes from past |
On the way to Puenta
la Reina there is a hill, Puerto de Perdón, where there used to be
a pilgrims hospice in medieval times. Now everything has vanished and replaced
by 40 windmills, generating electricity to the growing needs of Pamplona.
The electricity company who owns the windmills, has also placed a statue of
Santiago pilgrims along the ridge. This is one of the many pilgrim statues on the road to Santiago. I found all of them quite boring. Every statue portrays the traditional image of medieval pilgrim. Where is the statue of modern pilgrim with backpack, hiking boots, shorts and walking poles?
